Our Commitment To Sustainability, Diversity & Inclusion
At Elles Inspired Art, we’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint and making choices that are kinder to the planet. We strive to use recycled, recyclable, and sustainably sourced materials wherever possible; doing our part to create art that celebrates culture while caring for the environment.
Our Wall Art Prints: we use premium, 100% cotton-based paper made entirely from natural plant fibres for our wall art prints. Because it’s fibre-based and free from plastics, it is fully recyclable and environmentally responsible. Our paper is OBA-free, achieving its bright white tone through natural minerals rather than artificial Optical Brightening Agents (OBAs), which can deteriorate over time and have negative environmental effects. Its acid-free, internally buffered composition ensures high shade stability, exceptional colour preservation, and resistance to ageing; meeting ISO 9706 museum-grade longevity standards. Its archival quality means each print is designed to last for generations, reducing the need for reprints and lowering material consumption — a sustainable choice that complements the lasting value of our art.
Our Greeting Cards: we print our greeting cards on semi-gloss card stock. While semi-gloss finishes are not fully recyclable due to their protective coating, we select this stock for its durability, vibrant print quality, and ability to bring Afrocentric designs to life — reducing waste through longevity. By producing in small batches and printing to order, we minimise overproduction and use resources efficiently. We continue to research new sustainable paper options that balance premium quality with recyclability as part of our ongoing commitment to responsible creativity.
Our Apparel: we produce our apparel strictly on a print-on-demand basis, meaning each garment is made only when ordered. This eliminates overproduction, prevents unsold stock from ending up in landfill, and reduces unnecessary energy and material use. We use Kornit printers with vegan, eco-friendly inks that are OEKO-TEX® certified — ensuring they contain no harmful chemicals, whether regulated or unregulated. Every product is made to look good, feel good, and do good for the planet.
Our Mugs: our 11oz ceramic mugs are a durable, natural, and food-safe choice- a more sustainable alternative to plastic products that can leach toxins and degrade over time. Each mug is printed using water-based inks for a high-quality finish that’s safe for people and the environment. Designed to last, these mugs combine everyday function with a mindful approach to sustainability.
Our Stickers: we make our stickers from high-quality vinyl for durability and longevity. While they and their liners aren’t recyclable as paper materials, some recycling centres can repurpose vinyl. We encourage customers to reuse stickers wherever possible and continue to explore more sustainable, paper-based and compostable materials to reduce our environmental impact.
Our Acrylic Blocks: our acrylic blocks are crafted from premium, long-lasting acrylic, designed to be cherished and displayed for years. While not typically recyclable through household programs, acrylic can be repurposed or recycled through specialist facilities. By selecting a material known for its durability and timeless appeal, we reduce waste and promote longevity in every piece — ensuring our art remains beautiful for years without replacement.
Our Packaging: we use a combination of rigid mailers, paper bags, cardboard boxes, and recyclable packing tubes to ensure our products are protected while remaining eco-conscious. The clear cellophane wraps on our greeting cards safeguard them from dirt, fingerprints, and moisture during handling or display. Similarly, the plastic end caps on our mailing tubes provide a secure seal through postal systems, preventing damage in transit. These materials remain the most practical and protective options currently available, but we are actively researching sustainable alternatives to phase out plastic and move toward fully recyclable packaging in the near future.
Diversity is at the heart of everything we create. Our brand exists to celebrate African culture, heritage, and creativity through art; promoting visibility, inclusion, and pride in underrepresented communities. We work with suppliers and partners who share these values of fairness, equality, and ethical practice.
As an independent business founded and led by a woman of African heritage, we’re deeply committed to representation; both in the stories our artwork tells and in the opportunities we create. Whether through collaboration, mentorship, or showcasing Afrocentric artistry, we aim to contribute positively to a more inclusive and equitable creative industry.
We recognise that sustainability is a journey, not a destination. As a small creative business, we’re committed to continually improving our practices; from sourcing materials responsibly to reducing waste through mindful production and packaging. We will keep reviewing new ways to lessen our environmental impact, collaborate with ethical suppliers, and support diversity and inclusion in every aspect of our work.
We also believe that creativity thrives in diversity. Our brand exists to celebrate African heritage and promote cultural representation through art and design. We are committed to equality, respect, and inclusion — ensuring that our collaborations, suppliers, and creative choices reflect a wide range of voices, stories, and identities.
